VQC 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusion Assessment

The purpose of this report and the assessment tool we’re providing is to address the ways in which the outdoor recreation communities, like climbing, can make changes to ensure that their sport, fitness facilities and media representation are safe, open, and overtly welcoming to queer people. The key areas that you will see outlined in the main assessment portion of this report have been chosen as areas of importance by the VQC, with the help of feedback and additions from the 2SLGBTQIA+ community via a survey. These areas of focus are important factors that queer people look to in order to assess the degree to which they will be welcome and safe in a space.

Indigenous Territories Crag Map

Native Land Digital is a registered Canadian not-for-profit organization helping to face and deal with many of complex issues that mapping Indigenous territories involves. They have created an interactive map of Indigenous Territories. You can use it by entering your address, or by mousing or clicking around on the map to see the relevant territories in a location.

Once you click, a number of links will appear with different nation names. By clicking on those links, you will be taken to a page specifically about that nation, language, or treaty, where you can view some sources, give feedback, and learn a little more. We are always trying to expand our resources on these pages.

You can use this to find out which Indigenous Territories you are climbing on when heading to a crag to research their history and educate yourself further
